Scholarships
The Columbia Sailing School provides need-based scholarships and grants to Chicago-area youth to participate in sailing programs and compete in various regattas. For many families, this financial support makes a key difference in their child’s ability to participate in the sport.

Youth sailors wishing to apply for need-based scholarships can apply by filling out this application which the School’s Scholarship Committee will use to evaluate candidates. It should be completed by the applicant and/or his or her family. Responses will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and the information herein will be used solely to evaluate applicants and kept confidential. Applicants may be expected to prepare additional materials to support their candidacy. Applications are reviewed periodically by the Scholarship Committee during the year.

John Lemon Memorial Scholarship Fund
The mission of the John Lemon Memorial Scholarship Fund is to provide financial assistance to youth sailors in the Chicago area to support introduction to and continuing education in the sport of sailing. During and after his career as an Engineer, John was passionate about introducing sailing and seamanship to Chicago’s youth, with a particular interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
Effective candidates for the Scholarships will show an interest in sailing and applying STEM concepts therein and the need for financial support to pursue these interests.
Frank Giampoli Memorial Scholarship Fund
The mission of the Frank Giampoli Memorial Sailing Scholarship Fund is to provide financial assistance to youth sailors in the Chicago area to support their participation and performance in youth sailboat racing programs and events. Frank was an avid sailboat racer and wanted Chicago’s youth to enjoy the sportsmanship, comradery, science, respect, and appreciation for the water that sailboat racing brings.
Effective candidates for the Scholarships will show an interest and history in sailing and sailboat racing, respect for sportsmanship, comradery, and safety, and the need for financial support to continue their pursuit of these passions.
